Pembina Pipeline Corporation donates nearly $35,000 for Japan earthquake and tsunami relief

CALGARY, April 20 /CNW/ - Pembina Pipeline Corporation, its employees and contractors have raised a combined total of $34,690 to support the Canadian Red Cross' disaster relief efforts in Japan.

The company offered to match, dollar for dollar, all staff donations made to the Canadian Red Cross, and employees and contractors stepped up to the challenge by raising $17,345.

The Canadian Red Cross has been providing support to the devastated areas of Japan since the earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11th. Donations will go towards relief items such as blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene items, medical supplies and equipment, as well as deploying emergency personnel.

"It means a lot to Pembina to be a good corporate citizen and member of the community - but it means even more to support our employees in their efforts to be great neighbours," said Bob Michaleski, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Providing support to our employees for international disaster relief efforts like these is one way we can offer assistance when it's needed most."

Pembina's Community Investment program includes supporting employee donations and volunteerism through a variety of matching programs, as well as investments targeted at three funding priorities in its key operating areas in Alberta and British Columbia: education, environment, and health & culture. Last year, Pembina and staff donated $35,210 to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, and in 2006, the company raised nearly $27,000 for relief aid after the Indonesian Tsunami.

Pembina's field offices are located throughout Alberta in Drayton Valley, Sherwood Park, Edmonton, Whitecourt, Swan Hills, Valleyview, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray as well as Fort St. John and Kamloops British Columbia. The head office is in Calgary, AB. Pembina currently employs about 430 people.
