Pembina Pipeline Corporation supports aquatic education program
Pembina makes $15,000 donation to RiverWatch
CALGARY, Dec. 7, 2011 /CNW/ - Pembina Pipeline Corporation (TSX: PPL) is pleased to announce its support of aquatic education for Alberta youth through a $15,000 donation to the RiverWatch Institute of Alberta. RiverWatch, a province-wide program, will use the funds to help connect young people with the science relevant to their local rivers to better understand aquatic health.
"Pembina is very excited to work with RiverWatch to help students learn about the importance of the health of our local water systems," said Shawn Davis, Manager of Communications and Public Affairs for Pembina Pipeline Corporation. "Partnering with educational initiatives directed at environmental awareness, such as RiverWatch, can help Pembina make a difference to the types of programs offered in our communities."
The funds provided by Pembina will be used in RiverWatch's educational and environmental initiatives to maintain student user-fees at affordable levels.
RiverWatch is now the most widely used and in-depth environmental science program available to Alberta secondary schools. Through interactive hands-on learning experiences, approximately 10,000 young scientists each year are actively engaged in learning about river ecology, environmental monitoring, field work, data collection, wastewater treatment technology and environmental stewardship.
Pembina's community investment program supports non-profit and charitable organizations based in the communities where we operate. The company's funding priorities include an environmental component aimed at directing financial contributions and resources to support programs that preserve and protect the environment.
Pembina transports crude oil and natural gas liquids produced in western Canada, owns and operates oil sands pipelines and has a growing presence in midstream and natural gas services sectors. Pembina's common shares and convertible debentures are traded on the TSX under the symbols PPL and PPL.DB.C respectively.
