2012 Alberta Winter Games Announces Culture Sponsor
STONY PLAIN, AB, Dec. 13, 2011 /CNW/ - The Friends of the 2012 Alberta Winter Games is excited to announce that Pembina Pipeline Corporation has joined the Alberta Winter Games as the Culture Sponsor with a generous donation of $25,000.00.
With Pembina's support, the 2012 Alberta Winter Games will be able to enhance the overall Cultural Program scheduled to take place throughout the Games Weekend and will help ensure participants and spectators are exposed to the many cultural talents located within Alberta.
"More than just financial, Pembina Pipeline Corporation's generous contribution demonstrates the importance of incorporating a Cultural program into events such as the 2012 Alberta Winter Games," says AnnLisa Gawenus, Culture Director for the 2012 Alberta Winter Games.
"Pembina is honoured to be the Cultural Sponsor of the 2012 Alberta Winter Games," says Don Carter, Manager - Athabasca District for Pembina Pipeline Corporation. "The entire province will be watching these young athletes perform to their greatest potential, and we're excited to be able to support them on this stage. Community investment opportunities such as this are just one way Pembina can give back to the communities where we work, live and play. Good luck athletes!"
Pembina supports non-profit and charitable organizations that are based in, or support, the communities where they operate. Their investments focus on organizations that improve access to education, protect or preserve the environment, and promote culture and wellness.
The 2012 Alberta Winter Games will take place in the Tri Municipal Region from February 9-12. These Games provide the opportunity for many of Canada's future elite athletes to enjoy their first taste of competition at a provincial level. The weekend will include 22 different sporting competitions featuring more than 2,800 athletes, coaches, officials, and a multi-faceted cultural program including performing, visual and literary artists.
The projected budget for an event such as the 2012 Alberta Winter Games is approximately $2 million. While some monies do come from the Alberta Sport Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation, Alberta Lottery Fund, and the Alberta Government, a substantial amount of financial support must come from sponsorship and fundraising.
The economic benefit to the Tri-Municipal Region as the host of the Winter Games is approximately $2.5 million. Athletes, coaches, trainers, family, and friends from all over Alberta will flock to our region to compete, take in the sporting and cultural events, shop, eat, drink and sleep.
The Friends of the Games continues to seek support from the Tri Municipal business community. "We encourage interested businesses to get on board early as sponsorship opportunities are going fast," says Ray Frayne, Friends of the Games Director.
